Show Notes

In this episode of Confessions from the Home Office, I’m calling out a pattern I see all the time, and one I’ve been guilty of too. When things aren’t working, it’s easy to assume we need a better strategy. A new plan, a new course, something different. But most of the time, that’s not the issue. We’re just not fully executing what we already have.

I talk about how this shows up, starting to be consistent, then stopping to “refine” before anything has time to work. That cycle keeps you stuck and constantly starting over. It’s not laziness, it’s discomfort. Planning feels safe. Execution doesn’t. Showing up, staying visible, and repeating the same core actions over and over is where results come from.

So here’s the shift: instead of asking what you need to change, ask what you haven’t fully followed through on. Then pick one thing and commit to it for 30 days. No overthinking, no constant tweaking.

Because you probably don’t need a new strategy. You just need to give the one you have a real chance to work.

[00:00:06] All right, I want to talk about something today that I see all the time. And if I'm being honest, it's something I've caught myself doing at different points in my career, too. [00:00:15] It's this idea that the reason that things aren't working is because we just need a better strategy. We convince ourselves that if we could just find the right plan, the right approach, or the right tweak to what we're doing, then everything would just click. But most of the time, that's not really the problem. Most of the time, the issue isn't that you don't have a good strategy. It's that you're not fully executing the one you already have. [00:00:37] Hi, I'm Wendy Hill, and welcome back to the Confessions in the Home Office podcast. Thank you so much for listening. I know time is tight, so let's get into this week's episode. [00:00:47] All of this is just such an easy trap to follow into, especially if you've been in business for a while because you're smart, you're capable, you've seen a lot of things work, and you've seen a lot of things that don't work. And you know enough to know there's a lot of different ways to do things. [00:01:02] So when something isn't clicking, your brain immediately says, okay, what am I missing? What else do I need to do? And you start looking and you're like, oh, I'll go listen to this. I heard. I heard about this podcast. Or I saw this webinar. I'll sign up for a training. I'll download this. I'll buy a course. [00:01:20] I'll join a membership. All these people, we can talk about all this stuff, and I can get a better strategy. [00:01:25] And you start reworking your plan, and it feels really productive. It really does. [00:01:30] It feels like you're really moving forward. [00:01:33] But if we're being honest, a lot of the time, nothing really changes in your business from that. [00:01:38] You didn't show up more, you didn't make more offers, you didn't follow up more consistently. [00:01:43] You just thought about it more. [00:01:47] And thinking a lot sometimes doesn't really produce results. [00:01:53] And there's a difference. [00:01:55] Most of you already know what grows your business. You know, you need to be visible. [00:02:00] You know, you need to communicate clearly. [00:02:02] You know you need to talk about your offers. You know, you need to stay consistent long enough for people to actually notice you. [00:02:09] None of that is new information. [00:02:11] But what I see happen over and over is people start doing those things, and then they stop. [00:02:16] They start posting consistently, then they decide they need to refine their messaging, they start sending emails, and then they pause because they want to improve the strategy. [00:02:26] They start getting traction, and then they interrupt it because they're not sure it's the right direction. So instead of building momentum, they just keep restarting over and over again. And every time you restart, you're really going back to zero. [00:02:40] I think it's important to talk about why this happens, because it's not just laziness or lack of discipline. It's really not. A lot of it just comes down to being uncomfortable. [00:02:50] When you're planning, everything feels controlled. [00:02:53] You've got your paper, you've got your pen, you've got your laptop, you're in your head, you're thinking through things, you're mapping it all out. Maybe you bought a new tool online that you're using. [00:03:03] So when you start executing things, get real. Now people can see what you're doing, not just in your head on paper or on your laptop. [00:03:11] Now people can ignore you. Now, you could be wrong. You could be completely off base. And if that's uncomfortable, yes, it really is. [00:03:21] So there's also this idea that we don't want to waste time. [00:03:25] So we all tell ourselves, let me make sure this is the right approach before I go all in. I need to work on it just a little bit more. [00:03:31] But the reality is you don't need to figure out what works by thinking about it longer. [00:03:36] You figure it out by doing it long enough. [00:03:40] And I think a lot of people are consistently interrupting their own progress because they're trying to skip that part. [00:03:47] Execution is not complicated, but it does require consistency in a way that most people don't stick with. It looks like showing up when you don't feel like it. It looks like saying that same thing once more, even when you feel like you've said it or you've said it too much. [00:04:04] It looks like continuing to talk about your offer even when you think people aren't paying attention, keep going. [00:04:10] It looks like following up, even when it feels uncomfortable, keep following up. [00:04:16] It is not glamorous. There is nothing exciting about doing the same core things over and over again. And it feels like a lot because not everybody sees all the things you're doing. You're the only one that really sees everything you're doing. So it does seem really repetitive. [00:04:30] But that's where the results come from. [00:04:32] Most businesses don't fail because the strategy was wrong. They stall out because the strategy was never given enough time to actually work. [00:04:42] So here's the part that gets frustrating. When you stay in the cycle of constantly rethinking and restarting, it's starting to feel like nothing is working. [00:04:51] You're putting in the time, you're putting in the effort. [00:04:55] You're thinking about your business all the time and you're exhausted, but your results are not matching that. And it's really easy in the moment to start questioning yourself, to think maybe you're missing something, maybe you're not doing it right, maybe you need to pivot. [00:05:11] But in reality, you may have been much closer than you realize. You just didn't stay with it long enough to see it through. [00:05:19] So here's the shift I want you to make after listening to this. Instead of asking what's the best strategy, I want you to ask yourself, what have I not fully executed yet? [00:05:29] What did you start and then stop? [00:05:32] What did you try but you didn't try it consistently? [00:05:35] What are you avoiding? Because it requires you to show up more than you have been? [00:05:40] Because chances are the answer is it's already sitting there. [00:05:44] It's not something new, it's something that's just not finished. [00:05:50] So here's what I'd like for you to do. I want you to pick one thing. Not five things, not a complete overhaul of your business, although sometimes you may need to do that. But right now, just pick one thing that you know that matters. [00:06:02] I want you to work on it for 30 days without constantly tweaking it. I want you to execute it for 30 days without second guessing it. I want you to execute it for the next 30 days without stopping to go back to look for something better in an old notebook that you have. [00:06:19] I want you to execute it for the next 30 days. Just follow through. [00:06:23] Because chances are you don't need another strategy. You just need to give the one you have a real chance to work. [00:06:30] So if this resonated with you, I want you to share it with someone who's been stuck in that kind of figuring out phase a little too long. [00:06:38] And if you're in a place where you're ready to actually execute, not just think about it, stay close or send me an email. Wendy W E N D I Market Momentum Biz thanks for listening. And I hope you will listen to the next episode too.
